New-Old-Stock SR Silstar (Alloy) Left Crankarm...165 mm Thank you for your interest in this item and please visit our store for other offerings. We have very reasonable shipping terms and combine orders to save money (for customers) on shipping costs. We also maintain customer friendly return/refund/exchange policies. Product Description: Listing Update...I had an Ebayer contact me regarding these crankarms to alert me that some SR crankarms were not built to JIS specs. More specifically, we were told the Sutherland's reference manual indicates some SR crankarms were made with a 3 degree taper (at the spindle opening), whereas the JIS standard is 2 degrees. As a result, I pulled out my copy of Sutherland's and here is a direct quote..."A very rare, out of production SR silver crankset used a 3 degree taper. 3 degree taper ends are too wide to fit in a crank made for a 2 degree spindle." Now I am not sure how to measure the taper on one of these crankarms, but I can confirm we're a little more than halfway through our crate of about 100 of these crankarms. In other words, we've sold over half our crankarms in this particular model/size and I can only recall one of these crankrams coming back on a return (and I don't believe this one return had anything to do with this taper discussion). As a result, I have some confidence these crankarms are not the rare model Sutherland's is referring to, but I still thought the information might be helpful to some folks out there. Original Listing... This offering is for a new-old-stock SR Silstar left crankarm that measures 165 mm mm in length. They were made in Japan (in the mid 80's) from a forged aluminum alloy. So they should hold up fairly well under most non-competitive applications. I can also confirm a weight of about 195 grams (per our digital postal scale). Their is some polishing work that results in a somewhat shiny silver finish...but it's nothing special...and probably about what you would expect on an entry/mid-level component. Other specs worth noting include the English threaded hole for a 9/16" pedal spindle and the square-tapered hole for a bottom bracket with what we believe to be a JIS tapered spindle (see listing update above). Please also note we are not including a bottom bracket spindle length requirement with this offering, because this spec is more critical to the right crankarm...so the desired spindle length will depend on the intended right crankarm match. As for condition, these crankarms were bulk-packed, with little protection, so expect some shopwear with each offering. Note to international customers regarding shipping... We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case. Note to international customers regarding customs... We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs' laws...so we have to strictly abide by them.
